Hey! Click on this link to see a photograph of me. I'm on my front porch.
5 months and 50 lbs down!
Cliff's Day

Dear Jenny,
What about "A Day in the Life of Cliff," for those of us who don't have juicers and are wondering what to do? I've just mentioned raw eating to my sister-in-law and a non-juicing raw day would be great help when you have the time of course.
Your friend,
A.M.

Dear A.M.
"Cliff's Day" is a good idea. It is pretty simple. Bananas, apples and pears for breakfast. Quart of salad (taken out of supper salad) for lunch. Fruit and nuts for afternoon snack when hungry. Quart of salad for dinner. A banana or 2 before bed. That's it!

You know your wonderful book "Eat to Live" by Dr. Joel Fuhrman? Well that is about 80% raw and an IDEAL transition into all raw. That would be a perfect place to start. Dr. Fuhrman's website: www.drfuhrman.com A terrific program for a pregnant or nursing mama, in my opinion, of course. I'd follow that to a T except for the pound of cooked greens. Yuk! The 20% cooked food (always eat cooked AFTER raw) will slow the detoxing and yet tons of healing and health benefits will still result.

Dr. Fuhrman explains things SO well. The "WHAT ABOUT PROTEIN?" question for example. Folks can sign up with him on his web site and get Doc's help too!
Love,
Jenny
P.S. Not everyone is a radical 100% RAW type of person like me. The thing that is SO COOL about ALL raw is the discovery of satiety. I learned something about myself--cooked food triggered overeating. It did for me anyway. It is WONDERFUL to be FREE from that!
Hubby Loses 30 Via Raw!

Hey you health seekers that want to lose weight...this note is to encourage you to try going all raw. My husband, Cliff, had extremely intolerable lower back pain. He tried medication to no avail and he tried the chiropractor and that did no good either. I've never seen him in so much pain! He cried out in pain and scared me and the children. He said the pain level was probably up there with childbirth.

Well you know I've been praying for my husband and just keeping my mouth SHUT about getting healthy. Every time I would worry about his big barrel of a belly, and his junk food habit, I'd just pray, pray, pray. I can't help wondering if...well, do you think God would allow back pain to get Cliff to change?

Let me tell you what--PAIN MAKES YOU CHANGE!

Cliff was desperate. He actually ASKED me what I thought he should do. I said, "I'll tell you in two words." Can you guess what they were? Yep! GO RAW. He started on October 15th.

Sure enough Cliff lost 20 pounds the first month, and 10 pounds the second month, just like me and Dr. Joel Fuhrman's thousands and thousands of patients. Also, just like Serene Allison writes about in her book, "Rejuvenate Your Life" Cliff discovered satiety when he eliminated all cooked food from his diet and actually said, "This is too easy!" He too thought he'd be famished and never be able to stay all raw.

HE'S NOT ONLY LOST 30 POUNDS HE'S PLANNING TO LOSE ALL EXCESS WEIGHT!!!

RAW! RAW! RAW!

Five Months All Raw

Today, December 10th, marks five months of "eating all raw" and I've lost 50 pounds!!! I am down 3 sizes!!!

I've read that a person will hear a new idea six or seven times before they will actually try it themselves. This was true for me. I had heard about "eating all raw" at least a half a dozen times before I was ready to try it for myself.

This is how I got started. At 4 months postpartem, after our eighth baby, I was about 75 pounds overweight (which qualifies as obese). I was tired of being tired and fed up with being fat. I cried out to the Lord Jesus to help me learn how to lose weight and get healthy. On July 9th I read "Rejuvenate Your Life!" by Serene Allison www.rejuvethenation.org from cover to cover. I felt inspired to try eating this way. Was this my answer?

My husband encouraged me to try it for 3 days. I decided to document everything I went through in my journal. I started on July 10th. Right away I went into "detoxing." I had headaches and diarreah for two days, but I knew it was time to "clean house." After 3 days I lost 5 pounds and I felt an energy surge along with crystal clear thinking. It was like the fog had cleared out of my brain! I felt so good and was so excited about finding a way to lose weight I decided to keep on eating 100% raw veges, fruits, nuts and seeds and I made a commitment to keep on with journaling too.

In August, with renewed energy, I started an exercise program right in my living room with a video called "Walk Away the Pounds--4 Mile Challenge" which cost only $8 at Walmart. I do a 3 mile walk (a routine of various steps) six mornings a week and on the seventh day I rest my muscles.

I looked up rawfood on the web and found over 3 dozen sites. I joined an e-mail loop, and I ask them all my questions. I was directed to books on the web on Natural Hygiene. When I did a search on Google on the phrase "Natural Hygiene" I was shocked to discover 17,000 found! I began reading about the history and was surprised again when I learned it had been around since the 1830's. I had read about Natural Hygiene several times, and about the components of a healthy lifestyle, but now I was DOING it!

I began to closely follow the principals of Natural Hygiene (which includes 8 hours of sleep, plenty of water, exercise, sunlight and the raw diet) as a part of my daily routine. Can't forget those sunshine vitamins! I also commit each day to the Lord Jesus Christ and pray and read my Bible first thing every morning.

The pounds started to just melt off of me at a rate of about half a pound a day for the first sixty days. I had read ("Eat to Live" by Dr. Joel Fuhrman www.drfuhrman.com) that in the first month you will lose 20 pounds, 2nd month 10 pounds and 5 pounds every month thereafter until you reach your ideal weight. Sure enough I lost 20 pounds in the first month as a raw foodist, 10 pounds in the second month, 6 pounds in the third month, 9 pounds in the fourth month and 5 pounds in the 5th month. I feel absolutely grrreat! It is so exciting to think about next spring when I will be at my ideal weight. Yay! For those who continue with this living foods lifestyle, I've heard you'll never be overweight again!

Besides 50 pounds of weight loss, more energy (I wake up alert and ready to hop out of bed!), clearer thinking, and victory over overeating, I have experienced a freedom from depression, clearer and softer skin (even my heels and elbows!) I don't have indigestion, constipation, flem in my throat or post nasal drip any more, I no longer need to use deoderant, my tongue is perfectly pink and uncoated, I have more creativity, my fingers are no longer stiff and crackly, and I have a new desire to get out and do things and go places.

The most AMAZING result for me is that raw foods satisfy my nutritional needs so that I'm not having cravings and I don't struggle with overeating any more. Though I still cook for my family and feed them like normal, I don't want cooked food at all. I also no longer desire sweets! I love being RAW and it has affected every area of my life for the better.

I praise the Lord for the answer to my prayers.

Miscarriage

I received this e-mail from a woman who miscarried a first baby. I got Rebecca's permission to share their story and my response with you. Please pray with Cliff and I for Patrick and Rebecca to have a baby. I actually asked them if they'd like twins or triplets and they said they'd be delighted if the Lord blessed them with triplets! So let's all pray, shall we?

Oh my dear sister,
You have touched on a subject that is near and dear to my heart. I know first hand the pain of losing a baby because it has happened to me four times and two of the times I was 20 weeks along in my pregnancy--half way! I've also had close friends go through this painful trial.

We can trust God in His infinite mercy that these babies were just not meant to live for some reason and know He will work good in our lives through even this. One good thing (among many) that I feel the Lord has done in my life through having miscarriages is that I became more motivated to seek out better health.

Pleeeese let me encourage you to eat as much raw fruits and vegetables as you can for optimal nourishment with all those live enzymes, nutrients that are not cooked out, and all that fiber to clean out the intestines--which is where nutrients are absorped into the bloodstream. It is a good time to "clean house" and get ready for pregnancy. You've made a TERRIFIC first step to eliminate sugar! I'd also eliminate all processed foods and GO RAW.

Do you get daily exercise? A good start is to take a brisk walk for ten minutes and then walk back for ten minutes and do that 4 or 5 times a week. You can build up and add time on that as you are able. Exercise is crucial for a healthy supply of oxygen in the blood, to circulate and aid absorption of nutrients, for hormone balance and for eliminating toxins.

Do anything and everything you can to GET HEALTHY and NOURISH yourself and GET IN SHAPE.

I remind myself that a sickly tomato plant will drop it's fruit. A healthy plant bears fruit (offspring) easily. Also plenty of water is important. My midwife told me a woman can have a miscarriage just from not drinking enough water. It makes sense because I know if a tomato plant doesn't get enough water it will drop its fruit. If there's not enough sunlight the same thing will happen. Be sure to get your sunshine vitamins each day!

A healthy diet, plenty of water, sunlight and exercise will produce stronger eggs and make you strong for a healthy pregnancy and birth. Go for it! Remember this promise: "I can do all things through Him who strengthens me."

Sure, you are a little old to have a first baby--but NOTHING is impossible with God! Look at Sarah in the Bible. Hannah's story is encouraging too.

Besides malnourishment there are two things I know of that cause miscarriage: one is living in a house under high power lines. Vibrations rain down--this is called an electric magnetic field or EMFs. EMFs causes miscarriage and cancer, especially childhood Leukemia. The dairy farmers all know about EMFs and will not have their cows in a pasture near these high power lines. You do not want to live in a house with these high power lines overhead.

The other thing I read about after my last miscarriage is that a deficiency in Omega 3 Essential Fats will cause miscarriage or premature birth. Many, many Americans on the Standard American Diet (SAD) are deficient in the Omega 3's. Every day I grind 2 T of golden flax seeds (taste much better than the dark seeds) in a little coffee grinder and stir the ground seeds into a cup of water and drink it down. Very good for you!

Also, Cliff and I will pray for you and your husband--for health and for a BABY. Would you like twins or triplets? His Word says all we have to do is ASK. You might go before your church body, humble yourselves and ask the elders to pray. This is Scriptural. We've seen several couples do this and have babies nine months later! It is also a good idea for you and your husband to kneel down by your bed and ask the Lord Jesus to give you a baby. There is a lot of power when a husband and wife agree in Jesus' name in a prayer out loud together!

Love in Jesus,
Jenny

High Blood Pressure

When our car starts pinging and knocking this is a warning sign that something is not right in the engine. In the same way, high blood pressure is a warning sign that something isn't working right in our system. The Standard American Diet (SAD!) makes for an unhealthy heart. If we take any room full of people and divide it in half, all those people will die of heart disease. Half of our population will die because of what they fork into their mouths! One out of every two people will suffer needlessly from heart disease because of how they eat.

If I had high blood pressure I would immediately eliminate all fat and oils from my diet. All the excellent essential fats are in foods like avocados, raw nuts and seeds, especially flax seed, and even in other fruits and vegetables naturally.

Heart disease is a raw fruit and vegetable deficiency disease. Not surprisingly, fruits and vegetables are the two foods all the studies point to for longevity in humans. Not whole wheat bread, not bran, not even a vegetarian diet shows as powerful a correlation as a high level of fresh fruit and raw green salad consumption.

Though Americans would prefer to take a pill or an herb so they can continue to eat what they like, nothing will make the difference that a diet of raw fresh fruit and vegetables and nuts and seeds can. This is the key to weight loss, better health and a strong healthy heart!

Here is a testimony from the raw food list I am on. Now I know there are tons of these stories to support any program on the market. However, this is different because neither she nor I are selling anything!

Hello,
I'd like to introduce myself. I'm Sharyn and I live in NC. I found this
group through researching raw living foods. I began eating raw food 2 mos.
ago and have had amazing results.

I ate the Atkin's plan for 2 yrs. using only 20 g. of carbs and when I added back just a few more began gaining weight uncontrollably for about 2 1/2 yrs. All those years and before I had been followed by my Doctor so have many years of health records. He had me on 2 different blood pressure meds and a blood sugar med.

After eating raw just 1 week I cut back on my blood pressure med. since I
was having dizzy/feeling of blacking out spells I thought might be low blood pressure. At my checkup last Fri. my Dr. officially cut out my
blood sugar med. and dropped completely one of my blood pressure meds. This is after watching both rise for 10 years even through my Atkin's phase. My blood pressure was 98/70 and my blood sugar was completely
normal after eating when it was always very high after a fasting blood
sugar!

Oh yes, in the last 2 mo. I lost all the weight I had gained. Also My Dr. is amazed, excited and almost unbelieving. He feels he is very lucky to be seeing what is happening to me.

Besides the medical documentation of my health I feel fantastic; light
and tingly most of the time! My life is completely different and much
more enjoyable.

Malnutrition

Malnutrition is the primary cause of physical problems.

Whether it is a deadly disease you are suffering from or something like a hormone imbalance, mental or emotional problem, hair loss, skin problems, indigestion, overweight, underweight, dental decay, back, knee, hip or head aches, insomnia, infertility, miscarriage, blood sugar imbalance, colds, flu, allergies or even little things like post nasal drip or forgetfulness--NOURISHMENT is crucial!!!

As Serene Allison (www.rejuvethenation.com) writes: "We believe that the major source of all disease in the world is malnutrition. The human body is designed to be constantly recharged with vital enzymes, vitamins, and minerals that are destroyed in cooked and processed foods."

God has created the body with a wondrous built-in ability to heal. I am a serious "health seeker" and I've decided to stop eating whatever I feel like eating just for the pleasure and instead I try to eat to nourish the temple/body God has blessed me with, to heal and to gain radiant health.

Elephantly Healthy

Last summer at the Oregon Zoo our family arrived at the elephant's cage just in time to watch the elephant trainer's routine with a mother elephant and hear his talk.

The elephant trainer introduced us to Rayma and she took a magnificent bow. He threw chunks of apple into the air and Rayma caught them in her mouth. The trainer motioned to Rayma with his hands a command to turn sideways to give us a full side view and to hold up her magnificent trunk. Rayma obeyed and the crowd all said, "Ahhhh!"

What an awesome animal the elephant is! The trainer threw chunks of carrot to Rayma and whatever she didn't catch she quickly grabbed ahold of with her trunk and plopped into her mouth.

The trainer said, "Rayma weighs 8,600 pounds and eats 4 to 5 hundred pounds of food per day. The elephant diet consists of carrots, apples, sweet potatoes and alfalfa hay."

At the conclusion of the talk I raised my hand and asked...(Did you already guess what I asked?) "Is the elephant's food all raw?" YES. This gigantic animal eats ALL RAW FRESH FOOD!!! I guess if these big ol' elephants can survive and thrive on raw food (and birth and breastfeed their big ol' babies!) so can we!

Last night I grated a raw sweet potato into our salad and thought of Rayma with a smile. "Here's to good health, Mama Elephant!"

Breastfeeding and Raw Living Food

I have tried many different weight loss programs in my twenty-one childbearing years. (We just had our 8th child on March 27, 2003.) As a breastfeeding Mama, whenever I tried to lose weight, I'd always have problems with my milk supply drying up. Now that I eat all raw living food I have plenty of good RICH nutritious breastmilk.

I believe the "Natural Hygiene Health Science" lifestyle (besides raw food it includes sunlight, water, exercise etc.) is the most nourishing for my system and therefore I have plenty of nourishing breastmilk as well. I started this new program at 4 months postpartem on July 10, 2003. Ever since then I've been losing my excess weight without my breastmilk drying up. Terrific!

I feel like juicing has been KEY for me. It is like insurance. I try to have 2 juices a day of a pint each. I know I'm getting lots and lots of nourishment for me and Baby. Because the fiber is taken out of these veges, (I use a Champion Juicer) when I drink the juice it bypasses the digestive system and the fresh-raw-live-enzyme-vegetable juice goes right into the bloodstream and then to the cells. Aaah! Flood those cells with nourishment! I'm convinced that a Mama drinking fresh vege juice will make THE BEST breastmilk. It even has a green tint to it. Ha!

Our baby boy, Peter, is 100% RAW breastmilk fed! *Smile*

I will begin Peter on a little yummy raw living solid food when he cuts teeth because teeth signify his system is ready to digest it. I'll start him on bits of raw banana, apple, and avocado. Whatever raw food I'm eating I'll share with him so he can do some chompin' with those little toofies.

Peter is eight months old and is crawling all over the house and pulling himself to a stand. He is alert, strong, active as can be and he is CHUBBY! Here is a link to see a picture of him:

Sugar, Jenny's Twenty Reasons Not to Eat Sugar

In establishing a nourishing diet for myself one of the first things to be eliminated was the health robber SUGAR and his partner in crime WHITE FLOUR.

I made this list of 20 reasons why I personally do not want to eat anything with sugar in it because I need to keep them before me when the temptation strikes. I shared these with a friend and she asked me to e-mail them to her to encourage her to resist the sweets too. Maybe this will help some of you too?

I don't want to eat anything with sugar in it because...

1. It makes me TIRED and sluggish the next day.

2. I have CRAVINGS and my thoughts are consumed with dessert. I'm a sugar addict! When the empty calories hit the cells they send out a signal: "Hey we need some nourishment in here!" When I'm "on sugar" I'm a lot more hungry than usual.

3. I break out in a blotchy BLUSH on my face and neckline (people ask me if I have a sunburn) when I have a blood sugar imbalance from eating sugar.

4. Sugar knocks my immunities down, way down and upsets my pH acid/alkaline balance and the result is SICKNESS; when my system is acidic I am a sitting duck for a host of diseases such as arthritis, diabetes and osteoporosis.

5. My teeth get CAVITIES and crumble from acidic saliva/blood and the roots of my teeth rot and I hate having dental work done--especially root canals!

6. I get BACKACHES and neck aches, pinched nerves.

7. I get CONSTIPATION.

8. I GAIN WEIGHT.

9. I LOSE CREATIVITY, my brain gets fuzzy and I don't write.

10. I get STRESSED out because it depletes B-vitamins which effects my central nervous system.

11. I have MOOD SWINGS instead of stability and calmness.

12. I get INSOMNIA from the elevated blood sugar.

13. It CORRUPTS TASTE BUDS, changes the palette, and I don't want fruit or veges; all I want is more sweets.

14. My skin developes PIMPLES and doesn't have that healthy glow.

15. I get sugar blues and struggle with DEPRESSION.

16. It contributes to a toxic state in which I have BAD BREATH, a COATED TONGUE and BODY ODOR.

17. I read an article about research that shows how eating sweets causes BALDNESS in both men and women. I know it sounds funny, but I have a reoccuring nightmare in which I look in the mirror and discover I am getting a bald spot.

18. It makes me a BAD EXAMPLE OR INFLUENCE for my children, and even my husband, as they eat sugary stuff with me and develop the sugar habit. I don't want to be a grouchy, moody, stressed out, fat, sickly, tired, pimply, and/or depressed homemaker!

19. I know the effects of my nutritional choices are CUMULATIVE and can result in illness and disease in the future.

20. I WANT TO TAKE GOOD CARE OF THE PRECIOUS TEMPLE BODY GOD HAS GIVEN ME AND LIVE A LONG, HEALTHY, QUALITY LIFE TO SERVE HIM AND GLORIFY HIM.

God bless you!

Day after Thanksgiving Feasting

It is so wonderful to feel great and ready to go the day after Thanksgiving feasting! Yesterday I enjoyed my splurge of a raw apple cranberry pie and had no desire for anything else.

The day after holidays, so many, many times, I have felt gross, guilty, and gained weight. Even after vast quantities of food I struggled with overwhelming cravings to eat, eat, and eat some more. They say a fat person is a starving person. That was true for me. Today, all I've eaten this morning is an apple and it is almost noon and I'm not hungry! Maybe in half an hour or so I'll be ready for a delicious fresh green vege juice.

The ideal raw food diet so satisfies all my nutritional needs. What a revelation for me that cooked food triggers overeating. I'm SO happy I'm not a foodaholic any more.

Here's a photo of me and my Thanksgiving Raw Apple Cranberry Pie!
"Thanksgiving Feasting on Sweets--Fruit!"

Dear Health Seekers,
Today I lost another pound. That makes a total of 48 pounds I have lost since July 10th when I started eating all raw food and daily exercising with a "power walk" video. I've gone down 3 sizes, from a 20 down to a size 14. No more "big lady" clothes for me! I've still got twenty pounds to go or so, but hey, I am ON MY WAY. What an answer to prayer the raw food diet has been to me! I am full of thanks giving to the Lord today.

Day to day I eat pretty simply. I just eat a lot of fresh, raw fruit, some nuts and seeds, juice a couple of vege juices with my Champion juicer and then have a huge supper salad every night. Some have called me boring. However, as a homeschooling mother of 8, I am too busy to try many of these fancy raw recipes. Also I have begun this new regime and it is working and I feel grrrreat--so I'm just sticking to it like gorilla glue. I have been all raw for four and a half months!

For Thanksgiving, however, I decided to have a little fun and make a yummy raw dessert. Yes, I decided to splurge! I made up a delectable raw apple cranberry pie. Here is the recipe:

Raw Apple Cranberry Pie
Juice a sweet apple or two with a juicer. Set aside juice. Chop a half a cup of dates finely in a food processor. In a coffee grinder, grind a cup of whole almonds. Mix the ground almonds and dates together and stir in 1 Tablespoon of fresh apple juice. Add another Tablespoon of apple juice if needed to moisten enough to form a ball of "dough." Press this "pie crust" into a small bowl or saucer. Peel and slice very thinly a half of a granny smith apple. Chop up the rest of it into little pieces. Layer some of the little pieces on the crust to fill the pie nicely and then arrange slices over that in a spiral. Juice a half cup of fresh cranberries. Mix the apple pulp with the cranberry pulp and 1 Tablespoon sweet apple juice. Plop a little of this chopped cranberry in the middle of the spiral of apples and some around the sides. Pour remaining apple juice over the whole "pie" and WHA-LA!!! You've got yourself a raw apple-cranberry pie!

Click on the link above to see a photo of me and my raw pie.

Fruit and carbs have gotten a bad rap. Our bodies need carbs more than anything else. God designed our muscle cells and brains to run on carbohydrates. Carbohydrate-rich foods, such as fruit, when consumed in their natural, raw state, are low in calories and high in fiber compared with fatty foods, processed foods, or animal products.

Fruit even has protein in it! Did you know a banana contains about 3.5 percent protein, almost the same as mother's milk?

Sugar corrupts the taste buds. When I got off sugar I noticed that I liked eating fruit again. I began to notice a variety of subtle sweet flavors in various raw nuts, seeds, fruits and vegetables. If you can "lick the sugar habit," you can enjoy raw foods and they become a taste treat sensation!

God in his marvelous creativity designed fruit perfectly to appeal to our senses. When I think of fruit I think of the sweetness of the taste, the beauty of the shapes and colors, the tangy smells, the crunchy, slurpy sounds and the crisp and juicy textures as you eat it. Besides all that fruit is GOOD for you with hundreds of nourishing phytonutrients. Isn't fruit an awesome food?
